The No One Left Behind project

Between 2015 and 2017 this domain carried a Horizon 2020 research project on bringing game creation into ordinary school subjects. This page keeps its record reachable.

What the project set out to do

No One Left Behind funded a new generation of Pocket Code, a mobile coding environment that lets children build games on a phone. The premise was that mechanics borrowed from commercial games could carry ordinary curriculum content, that pupils learn mathematics or languages more readily when they are building something playable rather than completing exercises.

The consortium set out to reach roughly 600 pupils across five schools in three countries, spanning nine to twelve school subjects. The classroom tool that came out of this work wasCreate@School.

Where the results live

The project's approach was evaluated in a peer-reviewed paper, which remains the most complete published account of what the classroom trials found. The official reporting record sits with the European Commission.
